CRIA PRODUCT
Evaluate, design and develop digital products to reduce harms and uphold children’s rights
TrustElevate is developing a Child Rights Impact Assessment tool, or CRIA. It is a series of decision trees and recommendations that enable digital service providers to systematically examine the well established 4 Cs of risk (Conduct, Content, Contact and Commercial).
TrustElevate's CRIA also introduces assessment of AI and Behavioural Modification features to bring risk and impact assessments up to speed with current functionality.

Why should companies conduct a CRIA?
Increasingly, to ensure compliance with regulations and to build consumer trust, impact assessments are a key consideration for those engaged in product development. And, in recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the safety of children online and digital service providers' exercising of a generel duty to care toward those children.
The CRIA represents a culmination of these two areas of expansion. It facilitates the inclusion of product designers and developers in child online saftey risk assessment, previously the remit of policy teams whose work would involve retrofitting safety features if fitting them at all, so that features and products will be built to be Age Appropriate and Safe by Design. Those service providers leveraging the CRIA will also be able to determine the safety and age appropriateness of features in line with weightings we have created through a multi-stakeholder, youth-led approach, and extrapolate from those weightings a Child Rights Reputation Score - a powerful tool in demonstrating compliance, undergoing an ESG audit and highlighting your commitment to children's rights to ethical investors.
Start designing digital services for children and leverage trust and safety as a differentiator
In March 2021, the UN Commission on Rights of the Child recommended “the business sector to undertake child rights due diligence, in particular to carry out child rights impact assessments”.
TrustElevate's CRIA tool goes beyond simple compliance to give guidance on features and services that empower children and protect them from harm while benefitting businesses by establishing trust as a differentiator to generate a significant ROI.
